First I have to tell the story of how we came to eat at this nice little restaurant.
I have been on a Thai food kick for a few years now, with my favorite being the ever-popular Pad Thai (as spicy as it gets). In talking to a Vietnamese friend of the family, I found out that Vietnamese food is similar to Thai food. Of course, this sparked my curiosity.
While visiting Californa, we stumbled on the Saigon Noodle House in La Mirada (at Imperial Hwy and Santa Gertrudes). Their phone number is (562) 902-8614.
Not being a connoisseur of Vietnamese cuisine, I asked the server what dish would be good if I liked pad thai. She recommended one called Mi Hoac Hu Tieu Xao Thap Cam. I couldn't remember that if I tried, so it's a good thing I brought a menu home with me. It's a combination of chicken and beef with egg or rice noodles. We tried the rice noodles.
It was delicious! There was a little bit of a sweet flavor that I liked, and I was able to add enough red pepper sauce to it to spice it up to my liking. We also tried Cha Gio (egg rolls) and Com Thit (BBQ beef). Everything was very good.
Of course, it would be hard to match up to my favorite asian dish, Pad Thai. But I'll definitely go back to Saigon Noodle House to try more Vietnamese food. Who knows, maybe I'll find another all time favorite.
